Hua Hin 1

Thursday May 24th

Today has been a quiet day by comparison with those that came before. We had a very leisurely breakfast from the excellent selection of western and Thai dishes that were temptingly displayed.

At about 11.00 we decided to have a look at the beach which is 200 m from the hotel (although you have to cross a very busy main road to get there. It was very dull so we hadn't taken any hats or sun cream because we were just going for a look. Six or seven miles later we had walked the length of the beach to a ...... yes you have guessed ..... a temple. As we approached the temple a group of monkeys was running on the beach having stolen something to eat from a street vendor who was throwing stones at them. Why do you never have a camera at these moments - we were just going to see where the beach was.
huge pool
On the way back the sun came out in earnest and I had to use my t shirt as a hat - Pauline tied a sort of turban for me - just as well there was no camera. Still it is Thursday and we have both had a decent walk. It made scarcely a dent in the fat we have been storing away with our Thai curries and Chang beer. On the walk back when we put our feet in the sea it made our feet hotter. The sea is the temperature of a warm bath.

Back at the hotel the pool beckoned. It is huge. It may actually be 50 m long. A swim, a cold beer, read the book lie on the balcony. What's not to like? In the meantime I booked Pauline on a Thai cookery day on Saturday. She gets picked up from the hotel they go to the market to select and buy ingredients to make a four dish meal. She is shown how to cook the dishes then she can cook them and eat them for lunch. She gets a recipe book and a sticker for being good.
Yum yum Tom Yum

Tonight we have been to ANOTHER night market where we bought me a genuine Callaway hat. She assured me that it was genuine and the £5 price tag would seem to confirm that! We stopped at a stall in the middle of the market to eat Tom Yum and Pad Thai total bill £2.50 and 20p for the bottle of water. Both dishes were delicious. The hotel shuttle bus wasn't coming back for another hour so we got a duk-duk back to the hotel where I am knocking this out whilst Pauline is lying on the balcony with a cold beer. Life can be tough when you are retired.
